Sure.. we get told do things constantly in modern life.. so why should you change the way you do business as a musician?
For starters, no one will tell you what to do, what to play or how to run your band. That’s not what we do. The AFM wants to see you succeed AFTER the gig as much during it. There is a lot musicians can do for themselves after the last note has been played and fee has been exchanged.
But don’t take our word for it..
“I joined the musicians union because I was looking for a way to give back to my community and I knew that musicians often need quite a bit of help. I didn’t join because anyone made me, but because I wanted to see if we could change a few things for the better in Seattle. Within months of my first meeting at the union, we worked to create a Musicians Parking Program that has been emulated internationally. The AFM is one of the few organizations that are working to ensure that musicians have a life and benefits, and not just the gigs themselves. I find that to worth every penny of the dues.”
